San Diego State repeats in Golfweek Challenge

San Diego State placed all five of its players in the top 15 and successfully defended its title in the Golfweek Conference Challenge at Red Sky Golf Club in Wolcott, Colo.

The Aztecs finished with a score of 287-280-299–866, 2-over-par, while Pepperdine shot 291-289-294–874 to tie for second with Denver, which finished at 298-286-290–

874.

“There were so many highs and lows for our team today, but I am very proud of the way everyone pulled through,” Aztec Coach Leslie Spalding said. “I thought we rebounded nicely after some adversity, especially Haleigh (Krause) and Sirene (Blair).

“They got the momentum rolling again for us again. The greens here are lightning quick with huge breaks, but we just absolutely love this course with the fall scenery really starting to show.”

Washington State shot 301-293-287–881 to tie for fourth with Old Dominion, which wound up at 298-296-287–881, and Tennessee, which totaled 293-290-298–881.

New Mexico State was seventh at 299-297-288–884, followed by Central Arkansas at 301-295-289–885, Coastal Carolina at 300-300-286–886 and Campbell at 308-290-

289–887.

UC Davis finished 12th at 306-296-290–892.

Malene Krolboll Hansen of Coastal Carolina captured the individual title at 70-71-66–

207, 9-under, followed by Alivia Brown of Washington State at 73-69-68–210, Marie Lunackova of Coastal Carolina at 72-71-69–212 and Katherine Zhu of Pepperdine at 71-70-72–213.

Natalie Vivaldi posted a score of 72-67-75–214 to lead San Diego State in a tie for fifth with Anna Newell of Tennessee, who finished at 73-70-71–214, and Paige Lee of UC Davis, who wound up at 74-72-68–214.

Sirene Blair of San Diego State totaled 71-71-75–217 to wind up in a tie for 10th that included her Aztec teammate Milagros Chavez, who came in at 70-72-75–217.

Hira Naveed of Pepperdine was 13th at 73-71-74–218, while Haleigh Krause of San Diego State wound up at 75-70-74–219 to tie for 14th with Tatiana Wijaya of Pepperdine, who finished at 68-74-77–219, and Yoonhee Kim of UC Davis tied for 19th at 79-70-71–220.
