Top-ranked Jordan Spieth was three strokes out of the lead in a tie for fifth when darkness halted play in the third round of the rain-delayed Singapore Open on the Serapong Course at Sentosa Golf Club.
The 22-year-old Spieth finished off a 2-under-par 70 in the second round on Saturday morning and then was 1-under for round three through 16 holes and 6-under for the tournament when play was halted with players still on the course for the second straight day.
“This has happened before; it is not unusual,” said Spieth, who won the Hyundai Tournament of Champions and tied for fifth in the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship to start 2016.
“You have delays where you have to come out and be prepared to play a lot of golf the next day, and you hope that that day you are on rhythm.”
Song Young-han of South Korea held the lead at 9-under and even-par for the round through 13 holes, one stroke ahead of Liang Wen-chong, of China, who was able to finish with a second straight 67.
Shintaro Kobayashi of Japan and Keith Horne of South Africa were tied for third at 7-under, both through 13 holes in the third round.
