Van Aswegen Battles Elements to Win Second Stage

Murrieta, CA (Nov 21, 2010) — Under cold and wet conditions where no player broke 70,  Tyrone Van Aswegen from San Diego was crowned the winner of the pressure packed second stage of the PGATour qualifying tournament at Bear Creek Golf Club in Murrieta, Calif. The real drama happened, as it always does, at cut line at the 2oth place where players struggled with difficult conditions and nerves, desperately trying to cling to the chance at a PGATour card.
Those that hung on
Ted Oh, from Torrance, was 2-under for his last six holes to make it my 2 strokes. Michael Sims, from St. Simons Island, Ga.,  birdied his last hole to make it by a stroke.  Martin Ureta of Chapel Hill, NC and Adam Blyth of Australia both played even par over the last three to also make it on the number at +2 for the four day event
Those that stumbled
Jeff Gove from San Marcos was in by two when he made the turn, but bogeys on 13 and 16 pushed him to +3 and out by a shot.  Benoit Bessier made four bogeys with no birdies to miss by one.  Kendall Critchfield, from Tempe, AZ. birdied the last two be fell one short as did Luciano Dodda from Argentina with a final round of 76.  The biggest drop of the day fell to Tommy Medina who started the day well inside the cut.  A back nine of 42 for a final round of 81 also placed him one outside the number.
The top 20 players now head off to the final stage where they will compete for one of twenty-five 2011 PGATour cards.
