Jeneath Wong of Pepperdine claimed the individual title by four strokes and led the way as the Waves repeated as the team champions by an amazing 35 shots in the Silicon Valley Showcase at Green hills Country Club in Millbrae.
The Waves claimed their third title of the season with a score of 287-283-287—857, five-over-par, while UCLA was a distant second at 294-299-299—892, followed by San Jose State at 296-305-298—899, San Francisco at 305-296-308–909 and Santa Clara at 300-306-317—923.
“We are extremely proud of how the players fought through difficult conditions on a championship course,” Pepperdine Coach Laurie Gibb said. “Jeneath’s first college win was very impressive, especially after also finishing tied for second last week. The players really enjoy competing together as teammates.”
UC Davis totaled 312-304-310—926 to tie for sixth with Long Beach State, which wound up at 311-309-306—926, while Washington State was eighth at 307-303-318—928, followed by UC Irvine at 303-308-324—935 and Wyoming at 311-309-332—952.
Wong, a sophomore from Australia who captured the 2022 Women’s Australian Master of the Amateurs, earned her first college title with a score of 68-68-70—206, seven-under-par, followed by Riana Mission of San Francisco at 70-69-71—210, while Lauren Gomez of Pepperdine shot 74-70-71—215 to tie for third with her Waves teammate, Lion Higgo, who finished at 72-72-71—215 and Natalie Vo of UCLA, who wound up at 70-74-71—215.
Kajsa Arwefjall of San Jose State was sixth at 69-70-77—216, followed by Zoe Campos of UCLA at 71-76-70—217, Caroline Canales, also of UCLA, at 72-75-71—218, and Angelina Kim of Long Beach State at 75-76-68—219, while Kaleiya Romero of Pepperdine shot 73-73-75–221 to tie for 10th with Kate Villegas of UCLA, who came in at 75-68-78—221.
Lauren Calderon led UC Davis in solo 12th at 74-74-75—223, while Patricia Garre Munoz of Santa Clara totaled 74-76-78—228 to finish in a tie for 16th that included Kiana Briggs of UC Irvine, who finished at 75-73-80—228.
Rounding out the scoring for team champion Pepperdine was Vingzhi Zhu in a tie for 30th at 76-80-79—235.
