Sophomore Sean Crocker posted a runner-up finish and led fourth-ranked USC to a four-stroke victory over No. 12 Florida in the Southern Highlands Collegiate at Southern Highlands Country Club in Las Vegas.
The Trojans won their second straight tournament and third title of the Spring Season, also having won the Southwestern Jones Invitational and the Amer Air Invitational.
“I’m so proud of our team, Coach Chris Zambri said. “This golf course is the most challenging course we’ll play all season. Winning here says that we are a very good team.
” … I hope we just keep doing this. If we’re good enough to go out and win tournaments, then that’s what we should be striving to do. Regardless of whether we enter the NCAA Championship or regionals as top contender or a sleeper, I just want these guy to get better and better at golf and keep trying to win golf tournaments.”
USC carded a score of 292-280-297–869, 5-over-par, while Florida wound up at 295-286-292–873, followed by Oklahoma at 303-283-293–879, while Arizona State totaled 291-288-303–882 to tie for fourth with Texas, which came in at 297-284-301–882.
California finished 11th at 296-289-304–889 and UCLA was 15th at 308-309-307–924.
Sam Horsfield of Florida captured the individual title with a score of 69-70-70–209, followed by Crocker at 70-68-75–213, while Max McGreevy of Oklahoma shot 74-67-73–214 to tie for third with Sulman Raza of Oregon, who wound up at 77-69–68–214.
Shintaro Ban of UNLV, from San Jose, tied for fifth at 70-70-76–215, and Rico Hoey of USC shot 76-70-72–218 to finish in a tie for eighth that included top-ranked Beau Hossler of Texas and Mission Viejo, who came in at 74-69-75–218, while Justin Suh of USC tied for 14th at 73-71-75–219.
Shotaro Ban of San Jose finished at 74-74-75–223 and finished in a tie for 27th with his Cal teammates K.K. Limbhasut, who totaled 74-72-77–223, and Collin Morikawa, who finished at 74-72-77–223, while Jonathan Garrick of UCLA tied for 47th at 78-76-72–226.
