Finigan Tilly of San Carlos captured the South Beach Invitational by two strokes over Clay Amlung of Louisville, Ky., at Normandy Shore Golf Club and Miami Beach Golf Club in Miami Beach, Fla.
Tilly, who played college golf at the University of California in Berkeley, collected 24 birdies during the tournament, including 15 in the opening 36 holes, and finished with a score of 64-65-70-69—268, 15-under-par, one stroke off the tournament record.
“This is the biggest victory of my career,” said Tilly, who also won the Grapevine Amateur and The State Fair Amateur in 2020.
Amlung finished at 66-65-69-70—270, followed by Jose Luis Ballester of Spain at 69-64-69-69—271, and Sam Bairstow of England at 67-68-72-67—274.
A.J. Ewart of Canada shot 66-71-69-69—275 to tie for fifth with Matt Sharpstene of Asheville, N.C., who wound up at 71-67-70-67—275.
Michael Brennan of Leeaburg, Va., totaled 68-64-70-74—276 to tie for seventh with J.M Butler of Louisville, Ky., who wound up at 69-69-69-69—276, Frankie Capan of North Oaks. Minn., who finished at 70-65-71-70—276 and John Driscoll of Lake Mary, Fla., who came in at 71-64-71-70—276.
