Kevin Streelman birdied the last seven holes to post his second straight 6-under-par 64 and claim a one-stroke victory over Sergio Garcia and K.J. Choi in the Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Conn.
The 35-year-old Streelman, who won for the second time in his PGA Tour career, holed a 37-foot birdie putt on the 16th hole and finished off his run with a nine-footer on the 72nd hole.
“I just had a great perspective this week,” said Streelman, whose first PGA Tour victory came last year in the Tampa Bay Championship. “We’ve got a two-week vacation coming up, so I just came here to relax and have fun.
“I was pretty down on myself because I had missed four cuts in a row, but I was able to free myself up and play some better golf. It’s an honor to win here because this is one of our favorite stops on tour.”
Garcia got close by sinking an 11-foot birdie putt on the 17th hole, but ran his 29-footer for a tying birdie on No. 18 past the hole and settled for a closing 67.
Choi made an early bogey but rallied with four birdies before missing a 34-footer for birdie on the final hole that would have forced a playoff and also shot 67.
Aaron Baddeley of Australia also needed a birdie on the final hole to force extra holes, but took three strokes to reach the green and made a double-bogey 5 to wind up two shots back in solo fourth after a 69.
Brendan Steele of Idyllwild and UC Riverside closed with a 66 and was three shots back in a tie for fifth with 54-hole leader Ryan Moore of UNLV, who came in at 71.
