Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Okla., will host the PGA Championship for a record fifth time in 2030, the PGA of America announced on Tuesday.
The PGA said three years ago that Southern Hills would be site of the major championship again at sometime in the future, but at that time did not give a year for the tournament.
Tiger Woods (pictured) claimed the Wanamaker Trophy for the fourth time by two strokes over Woody Austin when the PGA Championship was last played at Southern Hills in 2007.
Tuesday’s announcement came on the week the 102nd PGA Championship was supposed to take place at TPC Harding Park in San Francisco, but the tournament has been postponed until Aug. 6-9 because of the Coronavirus pandemic.
Southern Hills, designed by Perry Maxwell, has hosted seven major championships since the course opened in 1935, beginning with the 1958 U.S. Open won by Tommy Bolt. The U.S. Open also was played there in 1994, with Retief Goosen of South Africa claiming the title.
Other than Woods, winners of the PGA Championship at Southern Hills include Dave Stockton in 1970, Hubert Green in 1977, Raymond Floyd in 1982 and Nick Price of Zimbabwe in 1994.
In addition, Southern Hills will host the 2021 Senior PGA Championship.
PGA Championship venues now are set for the years from 2020 to 2031, with the exception of 2025.
Those sites include the Ocean Course at Kiawah Island Resort (2021), Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, N.J. (2022), Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, N.Y. (2023), Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Ky. (2024), Aronimink Golf Club in Newtown Square, Pa. (2026), PGA Frisco in Frisco, Texas (2027), the Olympic Club in San Francisco (2028), Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield, N.J. (2029) and Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Md. (2031).
