Brandt Snedeker won the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am for the second time in three years, shooting 5-under-par 67 to beat Nick Watney by three shots on one of the best weeks of weather in tournament history on the Monterey Peninsula.
The 34-year-old Snedeker, who has been slowed by injuries the last few years, posted four scores in the 60s and claimed his seventh PGA Tour victory, but first since the 2013 RBC Canadian Open and earned a spot in the Masters.
“It feels awesome,” said Snedker, who broke his own tournament record at 22-under 265, two strokes better than his winning total two years ago. “It’s been such a long time since I’ve had this feeling and it’s special.
“It was a great day and I did everything I was supposed to. It wasn’t perfect, but I fought and I made some putts. It was so stressful and I’m so glad it’s over. I’m just so excited.”
Watney, from Sacramento and Fresno State, also carded four scores in the 60s but could manage only a 69 in a final round that included eight birdies and five bogeys.
Charlie Beljan birdied the last three holes to finish four shots back in solo third with a 66.
Jason Day of Australia, coming off his victory in the Farmers Insurance Open and fighting the flu, closed with a 67 and tied for fourth with Dustin Johnson, who finished with a 66 in his second event of the year, and Pat Perez of San Diego, who had a third straight 68.
Jim Furyk, who hasn’t won since the 2010 Tour Championship, went to 0-for-9 when he has held at least a share of the 54-hole lead in the last five years by shooting 74 and wound up six strokes back in a tie for seventh with Jordan Spieth, who totaled 68, and Matt Jones of Australia, who came in at 73.
Defending champion Jimmy Walker closed with a 69 and tied for 21st.
