Pomona-Pitzer, ranked second in NCAA Division III women’s golf, captured the team championship and Andrea York of Redlands took home the individual title in the UC Santa Cruz Invite at Pacific Grove Golf Links in Pacific Grove.
The Sagehens, coached by John Wurzer, claimed their fifth victory of the 2023-24 season with a score of 296-291—587, 11-over-par, followed by Claremont Mudd Scripps at 302-291—593, George Fox University at 294-302—596, Redlands at 310-292—602, and Chapman at 317-307—624.
Whitworth finished sixth at 325-309—634, followed by Cal Lutheran at 324-313—637, Occidental at 324-318—642, host UC Santa Cruz at 332-320—652, and University of the Pacific at 329-336—665.
York, a senior from Oakdale, erased a three-stroke deficit in the final round to claim her first college victory with a score of 72-67—139, five-under-par while Katelyn Vo led team champion Pomona-Pitzer in second at 69-71—140, followed by Sagehen teammate Rachel LeMay at 72-70—142 and Alison Takamiya of George Fox at 70-73—143.
Esther Lee of Claremont Mudd Scripps shot 72-73—145 to tie for fifth with teammate Jessie Kong, who wound up at 72-73—145, while Rachel Thong of Chapman was seventh at 75-71—146.
Liana Brown of George Fox was eighth at 75-72—147, while Malia Loo of Pomona-Pitzer totaled 71-77—148 to tie for ninth with Makensie Toole of George Fox, who came in at 72-76—148.
Alyssa Lee led UC Santa Cruz in solo 11th at 75-74—149, while Ashely Zook of Cal Lutheran shot 78-75—153 to finish in a tie for 17th that included Nikki Tabios of Pacific, who totaled 77-76—153, and Rachel Aujero of Occidental tied for 25th at 78-77—155.
Rounding out the scoring for team champion Pomona=Pitzer were Emily Chang, who tied for 11th at 79-71—150; Eunice Yi, who shot 79-74—153 and was in a tie for 17th that included teammate Claire Whisenant, who totaled 77-76—153; F. Domecq Lacroze, who finished at 78-79—157 and was in a tie for 29th that included teammate Ottavio Lombardo, who wound up at 77-80—157; Kiara Todd, who came in at 81-80—161 and finished in a tie for 38th that included Katelyn Lee a t76-85—161.
