Moore Claims Third Cactus Tour Victory

Haley Moore figures to be ready when the LPGA Tour returns from its Coronavirus pandemic shutdown with the LPGA Drive On Championship at the Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio, on July 31.

The 21-year-old Moore captured the Troon North Monument event on the Cactus Tour by nine strokes when she shot 10-under-par 62 in the final round on the Monument Course at Troon North Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.

“It’s definitely going to be pretty high,” said Moore of her confidence level when the LPGA restarts, because she has won three times on the Cactus Tour during the shutdown, including the event at Stallion Mountain Golf Club in Henderson, Nev., and another tournament at Sun City Country Club in Sun Valley, Ariz.

Moore has been outdone only by Mina Harigae of Monterey, who has won four times on the Cactus Tour since April.

“I’m just happy that Mike (Brown) was able to keep this tour going,” said Moore of the Cactus Tour owner, who kept the tour running in the Arizona desert despite early criticism. “This tour helped me get ready for Q-School before I became a pro.”

Moore opened the final round at Troon North trailing LPGA veteran Alena Sharp of Canada by one stroke, but was the only player in the field to break 70 in the final round after winning at Stallion Mountain a week earlier by three strokes after a final-round 64.

The 62 included eagles on Nos. 9 and 11, as Moore sank a 20-foot putt for the first and a four-footer for the second while equaling her personal low score, set when she was in middle school.

Moore, who sank the winning putt to give Arizona the NCAA Championship in 2018, finished with a score of 72-66-62—200, 16-under, while Sharp wound up at

69-68-72—209 and Karen Kim of Carrolton, Texas, was third at 69-71-70—210, followed by LPGA star Anna Nordqvist of Sweden at 66-75-71—212 and Brittany Fan of Hawaii at 67-71-75—213.

Julie Yang of Mesa, Ariz., was sixth at 70-72-73—215, followed by Kendra Dalton of Wake Forest, N.C., at 70-72-74—216, Nishtha Madan of India at 76-71-70—217, and Britney Yada of Hawaii at 74-71-75—220, while Krystal Quihuis of Tucson at 74-74-73—221, to tie for 10th with Emily Penttilae of Finland at 70-74-77—221.
