Rick Cloninger of Fort Mill, S.C. continued his impressive run at the 2014 U.S. Senior Amateur with a 3-and-2 win in Wednesday morning’s quarterfinals over Frank Dial of Auburn, Ala.
Cloninger, winner of the 2012 and 2013 Carolinas Senior Amateur and the 2014 South Carolina Senior Amateur, knocked off medalist Alan Fadel in the round of 32 on Tuesday, handing the Toledo, Ohio resident a heavy 7-and-6 defeat.
Cloninger’s semifinal opponent, beginning at 1:30 p.m. PST, is Patrick Tallent of Vienna, Va., who had the largest margin of victory in the quarters — a 6-and-5 win over Michael Turner of Sherman Oaks, Calif.
