Rory McIlroy and tennis star Caroline Wozniacki announced on Twitter on New Year’s Eve that they are engaged.
The couple, who call themselves “Wozzilroy,” have been dating for two years, but there were tabloid reports a few months ago that they had broken up. However, Wozniacki showed up at at least two of McIlroy’s tournaments late in the year, proving those stories were incorrect.
Wozniacki tweeted: “Happy New Year everyone! Rory and I started 2014 with a bang! … I said YES!!!!”
McIlroy, who is No. 6 on the World Golf Rankings after starting 2013 at No. 1, followed with: “Happy New Year everyone! I have a feeling it’s going to be a great year!! My first victory of 2014 #shesaidyes!!”
Included on the posts were three pictures — one of the couple together, another of the ring on her finger and the third of fireworks.
