Amy Matsuoka of Newport Beach won the Women’s San Diego Amateur Championship presented by Callaway Golf by five strokes over Jaime Jacob of Encinitas at Park Hyatt Aviara Golf Club in Carlsbad.
Matsuoka, a sophomore at Oregon out of Corona del Mar High, carded a score of 73-73—146, 2-over-par, while first-round leader Jacob finished at 72-79—151. Matsuoka chipped in for an eagle on the 18th hole in the first round, and closed out the tournament with a birdie on the hole.
Sarah Lawrence, who won the tournament in 2015, was third at 74-79—153, followed by Savannah Magallan of Chula Vista at 80-76—156, Emily Lichty of San Clemente at 83-80—163 and Christina Trujillo of Visalia at 79-85—164.
Marie Dean of Davis was seventh at 84-81—165, while Michelle Thomson of Santa Ana totaled 93-84—177 to tie for eighth with Jackie Whiteley of Orange, who came in at 87-90—177.
