Kurata wins third consecutive SCGA event

Kathy Kurata is on a roll.

Kurata, who plays out of Friendly Hills Country Club in Whittier, captured her third straight Southern California Golf Association event, winning the Senior Women’s Amateur Championship by one stroke at Glendora Country Club.

“I’ve been very fortunate,” Kurata said. “I always just come out here to do my best. Yesterday, I had a very lucky round—I got the bounces and putts just rolled in. I was just happy to hold on in the end.”

Kurata carded a score of 75-85—160, 14-over-par, while Corey Weworski of Torrey Pines Golf Club in La Jolla shot 82-79—161 to tie for second with Sherry Wright of Olivas Links in Ventura, who finished at 81-80—161.

Mina Hardin of Omni La Costa Resort in Carlsbad was fourth at 81-83—164, followed by Akemi Khaiat of Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades at 82-83–165 and Colette Rosenberg, also of Riviera, at 81-87—168.

Jeanne Hartman of Dad Miller Golf Course in Anaheim who wound up at 82-88—170 to tie for seventh with Mikie Alpert of Industry Hills Golf Club, who totaled 85-85—170, while Linda Pearson of Oakmont Country Club in Glendale shot 90-81—171 to tie for ninth with Sherry Smith of Coto de Caza Country Club, who came in at 83-88—171.
