Jacob, CSU San Marcos sweep CCAA titles

Jamie Jacob of Cal State San Marcos claimed the sixth individual title of her college career and led the Cougars to their first California Collegiate Athletic Association Women’s Championship at Sonoma Golf Club.

Cal State San Marcos, coached by Greg Hutton, posted a score of 311-293- 299—903, 39-over par, while Sonoma State was second at 306-313-303—922, followed by Cal State Monterey Bay at 325-312-302—939, Cal State East Bay at 320-317-314—951, Chico State at 329-307-324—960 and Cal State Los Angeles at 403-388-401—1192.

Jacob, a sophomore from Encinitas who was selected CCAA Player of the Year after winning four times this season, carded a score of 75-67-78—220, 4-over-par, while her Cal State San Marcos teammate Claire Hogle was second at 79- 71-76—226, and Carolin Chang of Cal State East Bay shot 78-77-72—227 to tie for third with Sabrina Virtusio of Sonoma State, who wound up at 74-79-74— 227, and Sarah Garcia of Cal State San Marcos, who finished at 77-77-73—227.

Samantha Oliva of Sonoma State was sixth at 77-78-74—229, while Julia Youn of Cal State East Bay totaled 78-77-75—230 to tie for seventh with Savannah Magallon of Cal State San Marcus, who shot 80-78-72—230, and Clare Brady of Chico State finished at 80-72-81—233 to tie for ninth with Julia Peters of Sonoma State, who came in at 77-78-78—233.

Leanna Mena led Cal State Los Angeles in 23rd at 87-82-84—253.

Bergen Benedict rounded out the scoring for CCAA champion Cal State San Marcos in a tie for 18th at 80-80-81—241.
