Thomas Hutchison of UC Davis claimed the individual title by five shots and the Aggies rolled to a 24-stroke victory over Nevada in the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational on the Blue Course at Eisenhower Course at Eisenhower Golf Club at Air Force Academy, Colo.
Hutchison, a senior from San Jose, claimed his second college victory with a tournament record score of 68-62-71—201, 15-under-par, while Blake Brothers of Cal State Northridge shot 69-66-71—206 to tie for second with Reese Fisher of Weber State, who finished at 71-68-67—206.
Winner of the 2018 Windon Memorial Classic, Hutchison’s 62 in round two was one off the Blue Course record.
Greg Yellin of Texas El Paso was fourth at 67-68-72—207, while Mark Stephens of UC Davis shot 72-65-71—208 to tie for fifth with Jackson Solen of Denver, who wound up at 66-70-72—208, while Caleb Shelter of San Jose State was seventh at 71-66-74—211.
Jacob Westberg of UC Davis totaled 69-73-70—212 to tie for eighth with Quim Vidal Mora of Nevada, who shot 74-70-68—212, TJ Baker of Southern Illinois Edwardsville, who finished at 74-68-70—212, AJ Lintunen of Denver, who wound up at 72-70-70—212, and Dylan McDermott of Colorado, who came in at 77-66-69—212.
Rounding out the scoring for team champion UC Davis were Lucas Carper, the 2020-21 Big West Conference individual champion, in a tie for 18th at 70-77-68—215, and Alejandro Nava in a tie for 33rd at 73-72-75—220.
The Aggies posted a score of 279-272-280—831, 33-under, while Nevada was a distant second at 290-280-285—855, while Denver was third at 286-282-288—856, followed by Weber State at 299-283-277—859 and Wyoming at 289-282-290—861.
San Jose State was sixth at 283-283-289—865, followed by Colorado at 297-281-288—866, Texas El Paso at 291-291-289—871, Northern Colorado at 291-292-292—875, and Nevada Las Vegas at 294-291-292—877.
