Higton claims 91st Fresno City title by 1 shot

Jason Higton of San Joaquin captured the 91st Fresno City Championship, winning it for the second time 18 years after his initial title in the event.

Higton, who played at Bullard High in Fresno and University of the Pacific, recorded a score of 70-72-66—208, 8-under-par, to beat four players by one stroke at Riverside Golf Course in Fresno.

After starting the final round seven strokes back, Higton scattered six birdies across his scorecard in a bogey-free final round, including decisive birdies on the 16th and 18th holes.

Danny Paniccia of Fresno, who has won the Fresno City four times, shot 72-70-67—209 to tie for second with Israel Garcia of Dinuba, who totaled 73-65-71—209, Michael Cliff of Fresno, who finished at 73-64-72—209, and Blake Bourelle of Bakersfield, who wound up at 70-65-64—209.

Jason Anthony, the San Francisco City champion, posted a score of 69-68-74—211 to tie for sixth with Alex Sylvan of Fresno, who finished at 70-72-69—211, while Michael Pugh of Temecula was eighth at 65-74-73— 212.

Scott Travers of Trabuco Canyon shot 73-72-69—214 to tie for ninth with Paul Smith of Turlock, who totaled 76-67-71—214, and Ian Oehlschlaeger of Clovis, who came in at 70-72-72—214.

Defending champion Jacob Fukano tied for 17th at 72-73-76—221.

Arielle Swan claimed the Women’s Division with a score of 73-73—146, Paniccia took the Masters Division at 73-70—143, Greg Loosigian captured the Seniors Division at 79-74—143, and Rob Adolph won the Super Seniors Division at 78-73—151.
