Players on the Southern California PGA Junior Tour are back on the course after nearly a three-month shutdown because of the Coronavirus pandemic, with social distancing and masks part of the cautionary guidelines.
Shane Ffrench (pictured left) of San Diego Boys Division and Meghan Royal (right) of Carlsbad took the Girls Division title in the 2020 Corey Pavin Invitational in the Toyota Tour Cup at Bear Creek Golf Club in Murrieta.
Frrench carded a score of 69-69—138, 6-under-par to finish in a tie with Lincoln Melcher of Burbank, before winning with a birdie on the first playoff hole in his final tournament before heading to USC in the fall.
Jackson Moss of San Diego was third at 68-72—140, while Adam Duncan of Bakersfield shot 69-72—141 to tie for fourth with Chanachon Chokprajakchat of Anaheim, who finished at 71-70—141, and Davis Lee of San Diego, who also wound up at 71-70—141.
Darien Zhao of San Diego was seventh at 71-71—142, while Luciano Conlan of Carlsbad totaled 73-70—143 to tie for eighth with Caden Fiorini of San Diego, who finished at 74-69—143, Kyle An of Aliso Viejo, who also wound up at 74-69—143, and Logan Kim of La Canada Flintridge, who came in at 71-72—143.
Royal posted a score of 71-72—143 in the Girls Division for a five-stroke victory over Alona Avery of Riverside, who finished at 77-71—148, and Ashley Yun of West Covina, who wound up at 76-72—148.
Angela Heo of Murrieta carded a score of 76-73—149 to tie for fourth with Karen Tsuru of Carlsbad, who shot 72-77—149, Yurang Li of Fullerton, who totaled 73-76—149 and Madison Le of Garden Grove, who wound up at 75-74—149.
Jordyn Parr of Temecula shot 76-75—151 to tie for eighth with Frances Kim of Rolling Hills Estates, who shot 73-78—151, and Ashley Kim of Fullerton, who came in at 76-75-151.
Steve Chung of Fullerton and Lauren Lee of Los Angeles took home the titles in the first event of the SCPGA Junior Tour 2-Day Series at Redhawk Golf Course in Temecula.
Chung posted a score of 70-68—138, 6-under, to win by seven strokes over Kasper Verwers of Fullerton, who shot 74-71—145, while Hunter Swanson of Denver was third at 72-75—147, followed by Xiong Da of Murrieta at 72-76—148.
Benjamin Battye of Torrance totaled 77-72—149 to tie for fifth with Matthew Robles of Downey, who finished at 76-73—149, while Ian Bruchhauser of Anchorage, Alaska, shot 78-73—151 to tie for seventh with Francis Bautista of Tujunga, who wound up at 75-76—151, and Trent Hurdler of Riverside, who came in at 72-79—151.
Mark Chang of Irvine shot 79-73—152 to tie for 10th with Johnavon Kim of San Diego, who totaled 76-76—152.
Lee took the Girls title with a score of 71-74—145, followed by Bowen Lan of Irvine at 72-75—147 and Lauren Lee of Irvine at 78-72—150, while Katie Ha of Los Angeles shot 76-75—151 to tie for fourth with Kaili Xiao of Chino Hills, who finished at 72-79—151.
Kayla Geng of San Diego totaled 80-72—152 to tie for sixth with Bridget Chantharath of Irvine, who finished at 79-73—152, and Amanda Tang of Yorba Linda, who wound up at 74-78—152.
Elise Lee of Irvine carded a score of 79-74—153 to tie for ninth with Euna Lee of Irvine, who finished at 78-75—153, and Annabelle Chan of Walnut, who came in at 77-76—153.
Dylan Oyama of Carlsbad claimed the Boys title and Ashley Yun of West Covina captured the Girls title in the SCPGA Junior Tour Toyota Tour Cup event at El Niguel Country Club and Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club in Mission Viejo.
Oyama shot 65-72—137, 7-under, to finish even with Kyle An of Aliso Viejo and claimed the title with a birdie on the third playoff hole.
Luciano Conlan of Carlsbad was third at 67-72—139, followed by Henry Yang of Chino at 71-70—141, while Jeffrey Kwak of La Mirada totaled 70-72—142 to tie for fifth with Ryan Voois of Ladera Ranch, who finished at 71-71—142.
Calder Overfelt of Newport Beach carded a score of 75-69—144 to tie for seventh with Owen Manchester of Irvine, who wound up at 69-75—144, while Ryan Abuan of Temecula shot 75-71—146 to tie for ninth with Ian Jin of South Pasadena, who totaled 71-75—146, and Darren Chiu of Oak Park, who came in at 69-77—146.
Yun posted a score of 72-72—144, 1-under, to win by two strokes over Karen Tsuru of
Carslbad, who finished at 75-71—146, followed by Kamille Dimayuga of Buena Park at
75-72—147, while Sabrina Nguyen of Escondido shot 75-73—148 to tie for fourth with Lauren Sammon of Murrieta, who finished at 72-76—148.
Katie Ha of Los Angeles was sixth at 74-76—150, followed by Jessica Wang of Aliso Viejo at 79-73—152, while Ryan Bullock of Aliso Viejo shot 79-74—153 to tie for eighth with Kaitlyn You of Torrance, who finished at 77-76—153, and Ellie Laur of Encino, who wound up at 71-81—153.
