John Chin of Temecula won the Reno Open in a playoff with Ben Fox at Washoe Golf Course and earned a spot in the Barracuda Open on the PGA Tour in August.
Chin, a three-time Big West Conference Player of the Year at UC Irvine, made an eagle on the final hole of regulation to pull even with Fox, of Sherman Oaks, then claimed the victory with a two-putt birdie on the first extra hole.
“It feels good,” said Chin, who was an All-American for the Anteaters in 2010. “I’ve been working on my game and am a better player than I was when I played the Reno-Tahoe Open in 2010.
“Last time I felt lucky to play, this time I’m excited to have a chance to actually compete with the players.”
Chin and Fox both finished with plus-31 points in the Modified Stableford scoring format.
The Barracuda Championship, a PGA Tour event that is played opposite the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational, will be contested at Montreux Golf and Country Club in Reno on Aug. 3-9.
