Cadillac has signed on as title sponsor of the WGC-Match Play Championship next April 29-May 3 at TPC Harding Park in San Francisco, the PGA Tour and the International Federation of PGA Tours announced.
The company already sponsors the WGC-Cadillac Championship at Doral in March.
“The World Golf Championships provide a global stage for the game’s highest achievers,” said Melody Lee, director of Cadillac brand and reputation strategy. “Expanding our World Golf Championships partnership to the Cadillac Match Play is a natural, as it is such a unique event, now hosted in the Bay Area, one of America’s most dynamic regions.”
The PGA Tour announced in July that the match-play event was moving from the Golf Club at Dove Mountain near Tucson to TPC Harding Park, which also will host the 2020 PGA Championship and the 2025 Presidents Cup.
The municipal course, owned by the City and County of San Francisco, previously has hosted the 2005 WGC-American Express Championship, the 2009 Presidents Cup and the Champions Tour’s season-ending Charles Schwab Championship in 2010, 2011 and 2013.
“We are absolutely delighted to partner with Cadillac at one of the most exciting and unique events on golf’s calendar,” Commissioner Tim Finchem of the PGA Tour said.
“Cadillac has already proved to be an incredible sponsor of the Cadillac Championship by raising the standard of excellence at the tournament while also using the event as a successful marketing and promotional arm to drive its business. We know Cadillac will find similar success in the Bay Area at TPC Harding Park.”
Jason Day of Australia won the title earlier this year at Dove Mountain, defeating Victor Dubuisson of France in the final.
