Brown Wins 20th Silicon Valley Amateur Championship by 1 Stroke Over Mungali

Barclay Brown of England led much of the way in the final round while winning the 20th Amateur Golf.Com Silicon Valley Amateur by three strokes over Keshav Mungali of Belmont, Ben Friedman of Mill Valley and Brandon Knight of Pleasanton at Stanford University Golf Course in Palo Alto.

Brown, a graduate student at Stanford, made an eagle on the first hole to take the lead en route to posting a winning score of 67-67—134, six-under-par, while Mungali finished at 68-69—137, Friedman also wound up at 68-69—137, and Knight totaled 66-71—137.

“The course was awesome,” said Brown, who last won in the 2021 Wyoming Cowboy Classic for the Cardinal. “Just like yesterday, I had a couple of great guys that I was playing with, and they had solid rounds and kept me going.

“I knew I needed to keep playing well to stay in it, and I was fortunate enough to hit just enough good shots. From there on the first hole, I was able to just keep it solid and birdie the easy holes and hit a couple more good shots.

“It’s a great feeling to win again.”

Kush Arora of Pleasanton was fifth at 70-68—138, followed by Benjamin Wang of San Ramon at 68-71—139, while Dean Greyserman of Boca Raton, Fla., shot 72-68—140 to tie for seventh with Lucas Carper of Auburn, who finished at 70-70—140, and Mark Stephens of Redding totaled 71-70—141 to tie for ninth with Ryan Calcagno of Carmichael, who came in at 70-72—141.

Jim Williams of Orinda captured the Senior Division with a score of 72-73—145, followed by Brian Smith of North Tustin at 73-73—146, while Ray Kong of San Jose shot 75-75—150 to tie for third with Daniel O’Connor of San Francisco, who wound up at 73-77—150.

“I was glad it went in, and I didn’t have to hit any more shots,” said Williams, who sank a 15-foot birdie putt on the last hole to win. I just kind of held it together. “The course was long and tough and was a good test for us.”

Craig Miyamoto totaled 73-79—152 to tie for fifth with Dan Young of Redwood City, who finished at 71-81—152, while Jeff Britton of Carmel shot 77-77—154 to tie for seventh with Rick Taniguchi of Lake Forest, who totaled 75-79—154.

Patrick Henry of Elk Grove was ninth at 76-79—155, followed by Tony Ralph of Sunnyvale at 77-84—161.

Past winners of the Amateur Golf.Com Silicon Valley Amateur Championship included Collin Morikawa, Max Homa, Randy Haag, Connor Blick, Blake Hathcoat, Pavan Sagoo, Gregor Main and Garett Wagner, who claimed inaugural event in 2005.
