Mila Chaves of San Diego State lost in a playoff for the individual title, but helped the Aztecs win the Mountain West Conference Women’s Championship at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage.
San Diego State claimed its first conference title with a score of 288-301-287–876, 12-over-par, with New Mexico finishing second at 303-300-278–881.
“Bringing the conference championship trophy home to San Diego State for the first time ever in women’s golf is an incredible honor,” said Leslie Spalding, in her fourth year as coach of the Aztecs.
“This team is capable of accomplishing many great things, and today they proved it. They will always be the first conference champions in women’s golf at SDSU, and their legacy will last forever.”
San Jose State was third at 293-296-297–886, followed by UNLV at 299-298-297–894, Nevada Reno at 299-296-302–897 and Colorado State at 304-299-310–913.
Fresno State shot 312-300-303–915 and tied for seventh with Boise State at 301-301-313–915, with Wyoming finishing ninth at 312-325-316–963.
Manon Molle of New Mexico finished at 72-71-67–210, six-under, then made a birdie on the first playoff hole to beat Chaves, a freshman from Paraguay, who posted a score of 66-74-70–210.
Dana Finkelstein of UNLV was third at 74-69-73–216, while Emma Henrikson of San Diego State totaled 75-72-70–217 to tie for fourth with Megan Osland of San Jose State, who came in at 69-78-70–217.
Madchen Ly of Fresno State finished at 74-76-71–221 to tie for sixth with Regan De Guzman of San Jose State, who wound up at 75-71-75–221.
Rounding out the scoring for San Diego State were Paige Spiranac in a tie for 14th at 72-77-76–225, Georgia Lacey in a tie for 24th at 75-78-78–231, and Sirene Blair in 34th at 84-81-71–236.
