Anderson shares Cal Open lead

Josh Anderson of Murrieta posted a second straight 5-under-par 67 to tie for the lead with Colin Featherstone of Fallbrook and Bryan Martin of Thousand Oaks midway through the 116th California State Open on the Champions Course at Morongo Golf Club in Tukwet Canyon in Beaumont.

Anderson, who graduated from Pepperdine in 2012, eagled the ninth hole and added four birdies while making his lone bogey on the eighth hole.

Featherstone, who played at San Diego State, sprinkled eight birdies across his scorecard in a round of 66, while first-round leader Martin, also from San Diego State, carded eagles on the ninth and 16th holes in a 69.

Amateur Richard Kim of Los Angeles shot 69 and was one stroke back in a tie for fourth with Brett Lederer of Lakewood, Kyle Souza of Encinitas and Stephen Edman of Rocklin, who all came in at 67.

Defending champion Chris Gilman of Yorba Linda totaled 70 to tie for eighth with Eric McCardle of Oak Harbor, Wash., who had a 68, and Xander Schauffele of San Diego, the California Amateur champion, who wound up at 69.
