AJGA Plans to Resume 2020 Season

The American Junior Golf Association has announced its revised schedule for the 2020 season, along with health and safety guidelines for an expanded summer lineup which features seven events per week and the most robust fall competition in its 40-year history.

The season was halted in February because of concerns over the Coronavirus pandemic.

The AJGA season is scheduled to resume on June 8-12 with the AJGA Invitational at Sedgefield on the Donald Ross Course at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C., and will include eighth tournaments and several qualifiers in California.

“Creative solutions are our hallmark,” AJGA Executive Director Stephen Hamblin said. “Returning safely to our mission after a global pandemic has required the coordinated effort of our staff, board, and local and global partners.

“We’ve used extensive expert advice, examined and adapted how we do absolutely everything in the safest possible way, and built a playbook for our team to follow.”

Included on the schedule are these events in California: the AJGA Junior at Mission Viejo at Mission Viejo Country Club in Mission Viejo on July 12-15; the Brendan Steele Junior All-Star on the Champions Course at Morongo Golf Club at Tukwet Canyon in Beaumont on July 20-23; the Under Armour/Allison Lee Championship at Candlewood Country Club in Whittier on Aug. 20-23; the Callaway Golf Junior Championship at The Farms Golf Club in Rancho Santa Fe on Aug. 2-4; the AJGA Junior at Peach Tree at Peach Tree Golf and Country Club in Marysville on Aug. 17-20; the AJGA Junior All-Star at Stanford Golf Course on the Stanford University Campus in Palo Alto on Aug. 17-20; the AJGA Preview by Explore Lompoc at The Mission Club in Lompoc on Aug. 28-30, and the Buick Shanshan Feng AJGA Girls Invitational at Stanford Golf Course on Sept. 4-7.

The AJGA will institute a proactive approach to applying managing social distancing at all tournaments. These plans were developed by using recommendations from global health partners and the Back2Golf plan, plus the PGA Tour, the PGA of America, the United States Golf Association, the LPGA Tour, International Associated of Golf Administrators and other allied golf associations.

In addition, the AJGA is working with local government officials to ensure community guidelines are met.

There are 55 Open events on the AGJA schedule, some of which are supported by pro golfers Justin Thomas, Jordan Spieth, Patrick Reed, Billy Horschel, Stewart Cink, Kyle Stanley, Vaughn Taylor, K.J. Choi, Bob Estes, D.A. Points, Brendan Steele, Se Ri Pak, Alison Lee, Shanshan Feng and Marina Alex.
