The Silicon Valley Amateur turned into an intra-squad match of the St. Mary’s College Men’s Golf Team on a day when heavy fog delayed the start of the final round by two hours.
Defending champion Connor Blick of Alamo, Pavan Sagoo of England and Dylan VanderVeer of El Dorado Hills—who all play for the Gaels—finished in a three-way tie in regulation play and went to a playoff in the Tournament Course at Coyote Creek Golf Club.
Blick (pictured right) and Sagoo (left) were declared co-champions after halving four playoff holes with pars before darkness halted play, VanderVeer having dropped out by making a bogey on the first extra hole.
Sagoo, who captured the McClure Cup and AmateurGolf.com Charistmas Classic in the last month, posted a score of 68-71—139, 5-under-par, while Blick totaled 70-69—139 and VanderVeer wound up at 66-73—139.
Finigan Tilly of San Carlos was fourth at 67-73—140, while Thomas Hutchison of San Jose shot 64-77—141 to tie for fifth with Isaiah Salinda of South San Francisco, who totaled 69-72—141.
Evan Knight of Davis shot 72-70—142 to tie for seventh with Sea Yu of San Jose, who finished at 69-73—142, while Bradley Knox of Menlo Park was ninth at 69-74—143, and Roman Aragon of Mission Viejo totaled 71-73—144 to tie for 10th with Kyle Stewart of Berkeley, who also came in at 71-73—144.
Mickey Mahoney of 70-71—141 of Carmel Valley defended his title in the Mid-Amateur Division with a three-stroke victory over Jerry Ledzinski of Carmel, who finished at 72-72—144.
Emily Sumner of North Tustin won the Women’s Division by two shots with a score of 74-81—155, with Marie Dean of Davis finishing second at 82-75—157.
