Steinberg wins SCGA Senior TOC in playoff

Craig Steinberg of North Ranch Country Club in Westlake Village added another Southern California Golf Association title to his collection by winning the fifth annual Senior Tournament of Club Champions on the second playoff hole at Palos Verdes Golf Club in Palos Verdes Estates.

Steinberg, who also claimed the inaugural SCGA Senior TOC title in 2013 at Industry Hills Golf Club, shot 2-over-par 73 to finish in a tie with Mark Harding of Hacienda Golf Club, who made an eagle on the fifth hole.

After both players parred the first extra hole, a bogey by Steinberg on the second playoff hole was good enough to take the title.

The 59-year-old Steinberg, who played at USC, is a four-time SCGA Amateur Champion who also won two SCGA Mid-Amateur titles.

Ken Weixel of the Santaluz Club in San Diego totaled 74 to tie for third with John Mack of Red Hill Country Club in Rancho Cucamonga, while Scott Anderson of the Links at Riverlakes Ranch in Bakersfield shot 75 to tie for fifth with Andrew Overton of Mile Square Golf Club in Fountain Valley and Barry Smith of San Juan Hills Golf Club in San Juan Capistrano.

Fred Hoffman finished at 76 to tie for eighth with Jeffrey Thomas of Island Golf Club in Anaheim, Bruce Cavarno of Redlands Country Club, John Hoffman of Torrey Pines Golf Course in La Jolla and Les Farmer of California Country Club in Whittier.
