Claremont-Mudd-Scripps claims NCAA title

Margaret Loncki of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps not only claimed the individual title but made a putt par on the second hole of a playoff with Williams College of Massachusetts to give the Athenas their first NCAA Division III Women’s Championship on the El Campeon Course at Mission Inn Resort and Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps collected its fifth victory of the season with a score of 311-317-316-317—1261, 93-over-par, and the Ephs matched that at 311-322- 315-313—1261.

George Fox University was third at 326-321-305-320—1272, followed by New York University at 321-317-319-321—1278, Carnegie Mellon at 321-318-320- 327—1286 and Carleton College at 321-335-317-317—1290.

Whitman College was seventh at 327-326-323-322—1298, followed by Methodist University at 322-326-331-320—1299 and Berry College at 333- 323-324-331—1311, while DePauw totaled 323-328-337-324—1312 to tie for 10th with Washington of St. Louis, which finished at 333-332-320-327—1312.

Loncki, a senior from Paradise Valley, Ariz., earned her fourth victory of the season with a score of 77-75-72-79—303, 11-under, and later gave the Athenas the national title with a 15-foot par putt on the second extra hole.

Navika Kuchakulla of NYU was second at 79-73-75-79—306, Jane Hopkinson-Wood of Wittenberg at 75-81-76-75—307, Johnna Beehner of Methodist at 83-74-76- 76—309 and Rachele Miller of DePauw at 79-75-76-80—310.

Mira Yoo of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps was sixth at 78-78-81-74—311, while Jorie Hodapp of Berry College shot 84-79-75-76—314 to tie for seventh with Ziyi Wang of Carleton College, who wound up at 79-82-74-79—314, and Brooke Klostermann of Wartburg College, who came in at 78-80-74-82—314.

Shiyang Fan of Whitman totaled 80-81-76-78—315 to tie for 10th with Iris Kawada George Fox University, who finished at 79-80-77-79—315, and Holly Davenport of Williams College, who wound up at 75-81-77-82—315.

Caroline Ordian of Redlands, competing as an individual, finished 17th at 78-75-88-77—318.

Rounding out the scoring for national champion Claremont-Mudd-Scripps were Emma Kang in a tie for 27th at 79-80-85-79—323, Emily Attiyeh in 48th at 83-84-81-85—333, and Kelly Ransom in a tie for 52nd at 77-90-82-86— 335.
