Sloane, Ha capture State Fair titles

Ryan Sloane of Campbell captured the California State Fair Men’s Masters Golf Championship for the fourth straight year, sinking a 35-foot birdie putt on the first playoff hole to turn back Juan Gonzalez of Antelope at Bing Maloney Golf Course in Sacramento.

Vanessa Ha of Oak Park won the Women’s tournament by one stroke over Abegail Arevalo at Bartley Cavanaugh Golf Course.

Sloane, the 2015 Oakland City Champion, led by five strokes at the start of the final round and finished at 67-67-72—206, 10-under-par, but Gonzalez caught him at 68-71-67—206.

However, after Sloane made his birdie bomb in the extra hole, Gonzalez barely missed a12-footer that would have prolonged the playoff.

Jeff Weiss of Sacramento was third at 69-71-69—209, followed by Dominic Debellis of Brentwood at 68-74-69—211.

Craig Miyamoto of Sacramento shot 72-74-64—213 to tie for fifth with Dan Orovich of Woodland, who totaled 73-69-71—213, while Mike Stieler of Oakhurst was seventh at 68-73-75—216.

Jay Weiss of Santa Clara posted a score of 73-77-68—218 to tie for eighth with Alex Koika of Burlingame, who finished at 69-78-71—218, and Chris Johnson of Carmichael, who wound up at 76-64-78—218.

Ha, a senior at USF, claimed the women’s title with a score of 65-70—135, 7-under, while Arevalo, a junior at San Jose State and the Philippines came in at 67-69—136, and Ysabel Tran of Rancho Santa Margarita shot 66-71—137 to tie for third with Kristin Le of Aiea, Hawaii, who also totaled 66-71—137.

Kesaree Rojanapeansatith of Thailand was fifth at 67-71—138, while Brigitte Thibault of Canada finished at 71-68—139 to tie for sixth with Hayden Mammen of Clovis, who wound up at 68-71—139, and Samantha Gong of San Francisco, who came in at 69-70—139.

Christine Danielsson of France recorded a score of 71-69—140 to tie for ninth with Kyleigh Moreno of San Jose, who totaled 72-68—140.
