Sagoo doubles up on Monterey Peninsula

Pavan Sagoo of England won for the second time in as many months on one of golf’s hallowed regions, the Monterey Peninsula.

Sagoo, a senior at St. Mary’s College in Moraga, captured the second McClure Cup by four strokes over Edward Hackett of Santa Clara and Thomas Hutchinson of San Jose at Bayonet-Blackhorse Golf Course in Seaside.

The 21-year-old Sagoo, who last month won the AmateurGolf.com Charistmas Classic at Del Monte Golf Course in Monterey, this time posted a score of 69-68—137, 7-under-par, making four birdies in the last six holes.

First-round leader Hackett of Cal State Monterey Bay finished at 68-73—141 and Hutchinson, a freshman at UC Davis, wound up at 70-71—141.

Brandon Wu of Danville and Stanford was fourth at 71-71—142, followed by Connor Blick of Danville and St. Mary’s at 70-74—144, while Kevin Velo of Danville shot 69-76—145 to tie for sixth with Sean Yu of Beaumont, who finished at 72-73—145, Christian Banke of Danville, who wound up at 69-76—145, and Colton Tanner of Park City, Utah, who came in at 74-71—145.

Joshua McCarthy of Danville was 10th at 70-76—146.
