Claremont-Mudd-Scripps wins in Georgia

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps headed east and came home with its third straight victory, and fourth of the season, winning by five strokes over New York University in the 15th annual Jekyll Island Women’s Collegiate Invitational on the Indian Mound course at Jekyll Island Golf Club in Jekyll Island, Ga.

The Athenas, ranked fourth in the NCAA Division III National Poll, posted a score of 302-301-310—913, 49-over-par, as top-ranked NYU finished second at 310-306-302—918, followed by Methodist at 309-308-305—922, Whitman at 308-306-310—924 and Centre College at 320-312-307—939.

Berry College was sixth at 321-310-309—940, followed by DePauw at 318-314-314—946, Washington of St. Louis at 310-313-324—947, Carnegie Mellon at 314-319-315—948 and Southwestern at 320-314-322—956.

Phoebe Nguyen of Whitman College claimed her third victory of the season and eighth of her college career with a score of 71-68-75—214, followed by Margaret Loncki of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at 72-74-73—219, while Shiyang Fan of Whitman shot 74-75-

76—225 to tie for third with Johnna Beehner of Methodist, who finished at 78-74-73—225.

Gigi Garcia of Washington in St. Louis shot 75-75-76—226 to tie for fifth with Jennifer Bluetling of NYU, who wound up at 78-77-71—226, while Bailey Plourde of Centre College was seventh at 76-77-74—227.

Emma Kang of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps finished at 77-74-77—228 to tie for eighth with Jorie Hodapp of Berry College, who wound up at 80-71-77—228, Christina Herbert of Bridgewater totaled 77-77-74—228, and Meghan Symonds of Sewanee, who came in at 76-75-77—228.

Rounding out the scoring for team champion Claremont-Mudd-Scripps were Mira Yoo in a tie for 18th at 75-79-78—232, Kelly Ransom in a tie for 33rd at 78-77-82—237 and Taylor Hughes at 84-76-82—242.
