Chan, Ree of USC earn LPGA Tour cards

Tiffany Chan and Robynn Ree of USC were among 20 players who earned playing cards for next season in the LPGA Tour Qualifying School on the Hills Course at LPGA International Golf Club in Daytona Beach, Fla.

Also on the list are Kassidy Teare of San Diego, the 2016 Big West Conference Player of the Year at San Diego State, and Brianna Do of Lakewood, who played at UCLA.

“I played on Symetra (Tour) for three months, so that kind of built up the momentum for me coming here,” said Chan (pictured), of Hong Kong, who finished second. “I came in with a really positive mindset, and I have all my friends here since I used to live here, and everything ended up good.

“I don’t know if I’m still dreaming. It’s actually my mom’s birthday today, she’s not here, but I’m going to give this to her for her present. My parents don’t really know golf, but they just encourage me and I can’t wait to talk to them.”

Nasa Hataoka of Japan finished first at 68-71-69-69-71—348, followed by Chan at 70-72-67-71-69—349, Paula Reto of South Africa at 69-72-70-69-71—351 and Rebecca Artis of Australia at 69-72-69-71-71—352.

Ree, a sophomore at USC from Redondo Beach, shot 75-73-69-66-70—353 to tie for fifth with Luna Sobron Galmes of Spain, who finished at 73-70-69-72-69—353.

Georgia Hall of England posted a score of 77-69-67-69-72—354 to tie for seventh with Amelia Lewis, who totaled 73-71-71-71-68—354, and Lauren Couglin, who came in at 78-69-72-66-69—354.

“Everything just came together these last few days,” said Ree, an amateur who would have returned to USC for the Spring Season had she not earned her card. “I’m feeling good, but exhausted. I’m really glad it’s over because it’s been a long week, but I’m happy with my results.

“It’s been a long journey and I’m really happy that I was able to get through on my first try. Hopefully I can have a good year next year.”

Teare birdied her last six holes and climbed 24 spots in the final round, finishing at 73-73-71-72-66—355 to tie for 10th with Caroline Inglis, who wound up at 74-71-69-72-69—355, and Marissa Steen, who totaled 71-67-71-73-73—355.

Do tied for 16th at 71-75-70-73-68—357.

Also earning their cards were Gemma Dryburgh of Scotland, Cindy LaCrosse, Laetitia Beck of Israel, Celine Herbin of France, Daniela Holmquist of Sweden, Jessy Tang and Maria Torres of Puerto Rico.
